Paul R. Oppegard is a civil trial specialist certified by the Minnesota State Bar Association and the National Board for Trial Advocacy. He has tried numerous civil lawsuits from a defense prospective in the course of his 20 year career. These include wrongful death cases, brain damage claims against underinsured liability carriers, dram shop, significant personal injury and dismemberment cases, burn cases, and asbestos personal injury cases, professional and medical malpractice claims, as well as many ordinary every day claims involving automobile accidents and slip and fall cases.
The bulk of these cases have been tried in Western Minnesota and in Eastern North Dakota. Paul is familiar with the local attorneys, judges and clerks of court in Western Minnesota and Eastern North Dakota. As a result, he is able to utilize his past experience, knowledge and familiarity to quickly evaluate claims and decide on an appropriate defense procedure in conjunction with the insurance company representative.
In addition to insurance defense, Paul has extensive experience in the defense of asbestos personal injury claims and a variety of environmental and toxic tort matters. He is local counsel for Deere & Company, Tyco/Grinnell Fire Protection Systems, Uniroyal, Inc., H.B. Fuller Companies, Lincoln Electric and others in this speciality area.
He graduated summa cum laude from Concordia College in Moorhead in 1976 with a double major in business administration and political science. He thereafter graduated from William Mitchell College of Law in 1980 and has been practicing continuously since that time in Fargo-Moorhead.
